Letting their fingers do the walking, Room 18 students are recreating a relief map of our beautiful state of California.
Modeling the painting style made famous by George Seurat called pointillism, students will be using fingertips to paint points of color. Each individual point comes together to make a whole, much like the community of Washington Open.
Each student artist hand-crafted a one-of-a-kind porcelain plate by mixing various colors of speckled dragonfruit clays with Venus white porcelain clay.
You will find an artist statement enclosed with your purchase, explaining the inspiration for the piece. Some plates received further embellishment with underglaze painting, while some artists chose to let the natural beauty of the dragonfruit clay be the focus. The low absorbance clays used here are often used for tableware, and form a water-tight surface after reaching their vitrification temperature of over 2000F in the kiln. In a second stage they were glazed with a food-safe lead-free glass coating.
Dishwasher safe, but as with all fine porcelain tableware, hand-washing is recommended to preserve the life and beauty of your new favorite plate.
